Why Support Act of Life?

We provide our adoption information resources to pregnancy centers for free. Some of these resources can be seen on our resources page. Counselors will use these printed resources for prompts when talking about adoption and then leave the materials with the women to take home with them as a point of reference to refer back to. We also cover the mailing costs of these resources.

Our adoption training must be completed by new volunteers in several Houston pregnancy centers. We charge a nominal fee of $15 per training attendee, which covers lunch and a workbook. We are now training outside of the Houston area in areas such as Dallas and Austin, with many other interested cities. Act of Life absorbs all other overheads, such as travel and overnight stays for out of town training and seminars. Don't forget that crisis pregnancy centers are non-profit organizations, just like Act of Life, so they have to be careful how they spend their funds also. Pray about that pregnancy center near you. Maybe they need an adoption training to be sponsored for them!

In order to effectively manage the adoption training logistics as more and more trainings are booked that are further afield, we have launched a "Train the Trainer" program. More people have stepped up to volunteer their time to facilitate adoption training seminars. We currently have one overhead projector, but we need more, and additional notebook computers as our new trainers become accomplished in their training roles. We will need funds for these hardware needs and/or donations of current hardware.

We plan to develop an "adoption manual", which is desperately needed in the pregnancy centers. Centers are well equipped to talk about abortion, STDs and parenting, but it is a sad fact that there is a distinct lack of biblically based adoption information. We aim to rectify this with a comprehensive manual that covers all aspects of adoption and serves as an essential tool for the counselors. In addition to the manpower that is needed to research accurate data and structure the manual, the printing costs for the manual and it's binder wil be significant. It is our goal to make this adoption manual affordable for pregnancy centers. This project needs financial assistance to make it a reality.

Act of Life has three paid staff members, all of which are part-time and do not receive benefits. However, the ministry is blessed to have staff who are willing to do whatever it takes to get a job done. We also have the greatest volunteers to assist with some vital ministry elements. With staff and volunteers there will also be office lease payments, utilities to pay for, Internet and phone bills and all the other overheads of running an office.

We have become experts at finding the most cost effective - or free - methods with which to run our ministry, but some things just cost money! We are dedicated to being good stewards of the funds that we receive from those that share our passion for being a voice for the orphan.
